Wonder Woman has been a cultural phenomenon and deservedly so due to its incredible quality. It has been dominating the box office ever since its debut and it’s even eating up other major blockbusters in its second week. It’s incredibly rare for a movie to still perform as well during its second week due to the rapid fall off, but Wonder Woman has persisted.
Over the weekend, Wonder Woman took in another $57.2 million, placing it on top of the box office yet again. It’s even more impressive when you consider that The Mummy, the Tom Cruise-fronted blockbuster made its debut. However, the movie performed really poorly, only taking in $32 million during its opening weekend at the US box office. It’s even more surprising when you learn that the movie has had wild expectations put on it in terms of its profits.
It’s a shame that The Mummy has been lambasted by critics and public interest has dwindled because of it, but that’s the price of reboots sometimes. All the while, Wonder Woman is making statements and showing that it’s here to stay.
