I believe we all remember what a disaster the first Suicide Squad movie was. What was initially hoped to be a nice ensemble movie about a bunch of unlikely heroes turned into this unfocused and almost arrogant disaster. When the inevitable announcement came of a sequel, people were deservedly sceptical. Fool us once, shame on us etc.
However, the sequel is going through a few changes with the biggest being the director. There was a hunt for who would be at the helm of the sequel with many hopefuls being tapped and speculated on. The director has now finally been picked and it’s none other than Gavin O’Connor. He was the director for The Accountant and Pride and Glory if you don’t know who that is. It’s certainly an interesting choice, picking someone who does not have a lot of experience in the “superhero” genre, but it can be interesting. The Suicide Squad are a bunch of colourful characters and all it takes is some decent direction to really make them come to life.
The sequel has a lot to make up for following the weak first attempt and O’Connor has his work cut out for him. The movie is set to begin production next year and will probably have a late 2018 to 2019 release date. Please don’t mess this up, Gavin.
