The reboot absolutely nobody asked for, The Masters of The Universe is now receiving some real treatment. It would seem the planned film now at long last has found a director and it’s not someone obvious either.
The film currently eyes a 2019 release date and has had more writers and directors come and go over the last while than people at your mom’s house.
David Goyer, the current writer seems to have taken up the mantle as he’s now entering the director’s chair as well. Wait, who the hell is David Goyer? Yeah, I didn’t know either. Who can keep up with all these writers in Hollywood anyway?
All wasn’t lost though as a swift Google search revealed that he’s actually the guy responsible for Krypton being so awesome in Man of Steel. There might be hope yet. I mean, if he has an eye for worldbuilding, we might just be in store for a treat with the world of Eternia. It is, after all, a magical, beautiful place and should receive the proper A-List CGI treatment.
Masters of the Universe will apparently be an origin story and will see He-Man, Skeletor and Battle Cat in action…doing what we don’t know but it will probably be rather straightforward since He-Man was never exactly the stuff of the intellectual heavyweight.
I really hope this works out because otherwise, this will turn out to be one of those origin stories you never see a sequel to. The worst case scenario…the film falls flat on its face on opening weekend, never to be seen again.
