The Cloverfield franchise has a reputation of messing with its fans. The original movie was helped along by viral internet marketing and weird mysteries that had to be solved by random internet dwellers. 10 Cloverfield Lane was also a movie that was first shrouded in mystery and even within the movie itself, you question what it has to do with this universe. It was a decent change of pace from the media marketing machine where you often get bombarded by posters, trailers and three hundred page press releases.
The third movie has also followed along this theme of mystery as it was never really known to actually exist. However, the movie titled God Particle that is being directed by J.J. Abrams has been confirmed to be the third Cloverfield movie. The film was originally slated for release in February 2017 and sufficed to say, it didn’t make that mark. The new release date that has been given is the 20th of April which is surprisingly close considering we know almost nothing about this movie. Its name isn’t even the final title.
The movie is apparently going to follow a crew aboard the ISS who discover something that will “change everything”. Ten bucks says they are going to spot some aliens up there. It sounds like a great premise with the potential for some good stories and like its predecessor, 10 Cloverfield Lane, it sounds like it will be claustrophobic as well.
