Videogame movies, yet again, are in the news cycle with the casting choice for Duke Nukem being the hottest news right now. Duke Nukem, if you’re not aware, is a super macho videogame character that chews bubblegum, kicks ass and has the propensity for saturating one-liners. Who better to play this manly character than the equally manly John “You Can’t See Me” Cena in the Hollywood rendition of the Duke Nukem saga?
The WWE pro-wrestler has been the top choice for Andrew Form, producer of the film and when asked by CinemaBlend if the actor/wrestler is on board with the project he said, “He is. Yes. We don’t have a script yet, so that is confirmed at this point but if he reads the script and he doesn’t like the script I’m sure there are ways that he could pull out, but right now he’s our guy,” This confirms not only the leading actor but that the movie is still a ways off considering the script isn’t even written.
John Cena makes a good fit. There are a lot of other beefy men in Hollywood that can work for this role, but Cena has that strong jawline, deep voice and infectious charm as well as being able to act. Honestly, I’m just glad that Dwayne Johnson isn’t in it because it looks like he has a monopoly on videogame movies that feature bulky dudes.
